Pooky “Shades of Brilliance” Design Challenge Design a fabric for Pooky and if you win, we’ll turn it into lampshades and you’ll walk away with a whopping cash prize of £2,500! Loads of runner up prizes too! Calling all students and recent grads of design and interiors. Pooky is asking you to create an awe-inspiring design – to be printed on paper or card or fabric – which will become Pooky’s next stunning lampshade. The winning design will roll into production, appear on lampshades all over and we’ll make sure to splash your name liberally about! What a lovely piece of plumage for your design hat! Judged by a panel of top industry superhero’s including the hugely experienced and talented Matthew Williamson and Beata Heuman, one of the UK’s most respected interior designers, the Pooky “Shades of Brilliance” competition is your chance to launch yourself on the world of design. The full brief: To create a fabric print design that would be suitable for use on a range of Pooky lampshades. Entries should include the print design; a mock-up of the design shown on a 40cm straight empire shade (you can specify rolled, gathered or taped) paired with your choice from our Wobster range of lamps (digital files available below); and, if you choose, the same print design shown on a brand new lampshade design (shape and size). The design needs to be commercially viable so it can readily be put into production so make sure your designs are suitable for digital print onto cotton or linen. The winner will be selected by a panel of industry experts that includes internationally acclaimed designer Matthew Williamson and Beata Heuman, one of the UK’s most respected interior designers. The winning design will be put into production for sale via Pooky, with a minimum value of £2,500 to be earned in royalties by the winning designer. 3 runner up designers will also be given the opportunity to have their designs printed for them by Pooky, as well as a £250 Pooky voucher each. Last Date for Entries: 1st September Top Prize: The winning design will be put into a limited production run and resulting shades sold via Pooky.com. Minimum royalty percentage of £2,500 will be earned by the winning designer. Professional lifestyle photography of the final shade design. Digital Assets and Template T's &C's Open to all design students of Textile Design, Interior Design, Print Design, Product Design, Illustration and any students of design with a passion for the above fields, either current or graduates from the last 2 years (2019 – 2021). Students must be based in the UK, Republic of Ireland,Channel Islands or Isle of Man. Applicants must be over 16. All submissions must include 1 depiction of your print design, 1 depiction of your design as a 40cm straight empire shade and 1 depiction of your shade design on our Wobster table lamp. CAD (or other software) drawings or hand drawings all acceptable. See the Pooky website, and assets folder above, for shade size reference and choose your Wobster from the examples provided. You should include a description of your design, including design name, fabric material, finish style (pleated, taped, rolled etc). Optional additions may include a depiction of your print designed onto a brand new shade shape, be creative but remember it needs to be use-able! Only one submission per person is permitted. Closing date for entries is 1st September 2021. Entrants will be narrowed down to a shortlist and passed on to the panel of judges. A royalty of 5% of all lampshade sales of the winning design for 12 months from launch will be paid to the designer of the winning design, with a minimum of £2,500. Pooky will have exclusive and unlimited use of the winning design to manufacture lampshades in perpetuity. After 6 months from launch, the winner may use their winning design for any other non-lampshade use. Runners up will be eligible to receive 10m of their fabric printed for their use. They will need to supply CAD files and pantone references. If they decide that there are no suitable entries then the judges do reserve the right to withhold the award. Entry to the competition will be deemed as acceptance of these T’s and C’s.
