Contemporary wood table lamps

Wood is a perfect material for a vintage or English Country interior design scheme – a spindle table lamp painted a distressed white is just the thing for some shabby chic. But on the other hand, turned wood can also be sleek and smart. So wood is well worth considering whatever kind of interior design scheme you’re working on – and of course it’s also very affordable. Here are some of our favourite wooden table lamp styles to inspire you. Some are delicate, some are dramatic – but all work brilliantly in contemporary schemes.

Distressed chic….

Natural whitewash gives wood that gorgeously distressed feel. Take the Moonshine table lamp in the white finish - above - beautifully turned with with echoing circles, it has a comforting shape. And it also has that vintage vibe that would be right at home in a shabby chic bedroom, or perhaps on a welsh dresser in an English country-style kitchen.

...or smart and sleek

On the other hand, a similarly tall and slim wooden table lamp can look sleek, smart and contemporary. This is the Luty in mahogany - elegant and timeless, especially with a a small, colourful shade.

Small and simple wooden table lamps

Turned wood can have a certain simple, unobtrusive beauty that other materials can’t quite match. The Holly is a good example - a twisted spindle lamp in a distressed white finish - ideal for an occasional table. And we think the Lillee light is a delightfully simple classic. We do it in three colours, of which the most eye-catching, if that’s what you want, is this orange.

Wooden bedside lamps

A small wooden table lamp is also always a favourite for bedside lighting. Unless you have huge amount of space next to your bed, you’ll want something small and delicate - and natural wood has an innate relaxing, informal quality. Our Fred and Ginger lamps are perfectly suited to the bedside. Unpretentious, dainty and just the job - great as a pair on either side of a double bed.

Wooden statement lamps

You can also make a proper statement with carved wood. Take the Jake - a tall imposing carved Italianate deisgn, lacquered in a strong and punchy claret red. It needs some space and a good shade, but in the right place it will sing like Pavarotti.

But if that’s a bit wild for you, why not try something more classical in design? The Draycott went through several designs before the proportions fell into place… and the result is a seriously good combination of turns, angles and concaves - classical but quite contemporary at the same time. You can put this anywhere.
