Clamp it on
The clamp grips a shelf, mantel or headboard. Anywhere with an accessible edge up to 4cm thick works.
Twist to fit
Tighten the thumbscrew until it holds firm on the shelf edge. It grips edges up to 4cm thick.
Tap to light
Touch the tap to switch on and dim it to suit the room. The rechargeable unit does the rest, with no socket required.

Not legally, of course — that would make introductions rather long. But look closely and you’ll find fluting that’s properly turned, collars that step down neatly at each end, and a thumbscrew knurled so it grips nicely between finger and thumb.
Nobody would have grumbled if we’d skipped any of it. We’d have noticed, though, and it would have bothered us for years.

The cordless fitting clamps to the shelf, the Genesis rechargeable cell drops in on top, and the shade is entirely your call. Swap the shade whenever you fancy a change and the same light reads completely differently.

Shade sizes in our photographs range from 14cm to 20cm. A smaller shade keeps things neat on a narrow shelf; a larger one throws a wider pool of light.

Things you might ask
Is it really cordless?+
Yes. The bookshelf light runs on an internal rechargeable battery, so there are no cables to hide and no socket to find. Charge it, clamp it on, and it’s ready.
How long does a charge last?+
Between nine and seventeen hours depending on how bright you have it. Charging from empty takes around five hours over the included USB‑C cable.
What can I clamp it to?+
Any horizontal surface 4cm thick or under: bookshelves, mantels, bookcases, cabinet tops and desks. The clamp is designed for horizontal surfaces, so it isn’t suitable for mounting on a vertical panel or wall.
How does the clamp attach?+
It clamps onto a horizontal edge up to 4cm thick, then tightens with a thumbscrew. Turn it until it feels secure rather than forcing it, and check the fit before you let go.
Does it come with a shade?+
The shade isn’t included, so you can choose whichever pooky shade you like and swap it whenever you fancy a change. Every shot on this page shows a shade added separately.
